95 Pts in Wine Advocate #222 (Dec 2015)
“A surprise, big-time sleeper for me…The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a dense ruby/purple, the wine shows plenty of blueberry and black raspberry fruit, cassis, licorice and incense…The wine has beautiful texture, a full body, terrific purity and palate presence. It should drink nicely for 15-20 years, and merit serious attention…”

“Truly exquisitely crafted…This is, without question, one of the best modern examples of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon we have tasted in quite some time and can easily hold its own in the brass ring of Napa’s superstars…With tremendous density, texture and near perfect balance, this modern style of Napa Cabernet competes with the great cult names of Napa many times its price point…nothing short of spectacular and we do not anticipate this bespoke wine holding at this price for very long…An absolute blockbuster – if you are a fan of Napa Cab at its most sound, modern form, this is the wine for you.” –Ian Cauble, Master Sommelier

The most sought-after wine in our portfolio, this limited-production of 533 cases represents the pinnacle of Hertelendy winemaking and embraces the elegant power and complexity. This wine is crafted by blending Cabernet Sauvignon with other classic Bordeaux varietals. The wine was aged for 22 months in 90% new French oak, which added structure and character without overpowering the natural essence of the berries. Grown on the eastern hillsides of Napa Valley, the intricacy of these vineyards was enhanced by the powerful 2013 vintage.
GROWING SEASON AND HARVEST
2013 was an incredible vintage that Robert Parker praised as: “2013 may turn out to be the finest vintage I have experienced in tasting north coast varietals over the last 37 years…This could turn out to be one of the most epic and awesome vintages the north coast of California has ever produced.” The 2013 growing season offered ideal growing conditions, even though it was a drought year. We experienced exceptional weather during bloom and an excellent fruit set on our steep, western-facing slopes. As the year progressed, summer temperatures were also ideal with alternating periods of fog and sunshine ensuring great hang time and no significant stress on the vines. With such a quintessential climate, we were able to pick exactly when we wanted, resulting in ultra-premium, perfectly developed fruit with great balance, acidity, and concentration.
This bold Cabernet combines classic mountainside structure with graceful purity and sophistication. The aromas reveal dark cherry, blackcurrant, and crème de cassis, along with notes of mocha, leather, and vanilla. Rich notes of ripe, dark fruit and baking spices are layered with velvety, lush tannins and an explosive, long-lingering finish. Flirtatious nuances evolve within the textural expansiveness, culminating in a wine that displays elegance, opulence, and finesse.
